Alyssa joined the Swine Vet Center (SVC) team in June 2018 after receiving her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Minnesota. In 2021, Alyssa received her PhD from the University of Minnesota. She is an associate veterinarian for SVC and director of SVC Insight Research.

Originally from Owatonna, Minnesota, Alyssa became interested in pursuing a career in agriculture when she took a job while in high school working at a 1,500-sow farm and 3,000-sow farm.

Alyssa has become an expert on the diagnostics and epidemiology of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae, which was the subject of her PhD work, and has dedicated significant efforts towards improving the industry’s knowledge of swine Mycoplasmas. Over the years, Alyssa has helped swine producers with M. hyopneumoniae surveillance, control, and elimination procedures.

Her life is not all work, however. Alyssa enjoys teaching adult ballroom classes, camping, and spending time with her husband (Carl) and their son (Lincoln). They currently reside in Prior Lake, Minnesota.
