Laura grew up in rural Lafayette, Minnesota, where she discovered her love of animals while showing sheep in FFA and 4-H and helping to take care of the flock on her grandpa’s farm. She knew she wanted to focus on swine after taking a job at a boar stud during her summers in undergraduate study. Laura then completed two internships at the Swine Vet Center (SVC) while attending veterinary school at the University of Minnesota.
After earning her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2008, Laura joined SVC where she enjoys connecting with staff and clients to work toward improving the health and production of their sow herds and downstream flows. She is also especially passionate about teaching and training, planning and executing disease-elimination programs and working with boar studs.
Today, Laura has been able to return to her grandpa’s farm with her husband Kyle and two sons, William (3 years) and Lane (1 year). They enjoy raising the same flock of purebred Suffolk sheep her grandpa started many years ago and spending time together as a family.
