Ross was raised on a Harmony, Minnesota, farm where he helped raise hogs, beef cattle and 1,300 acres of crops. His experiences on the farm helped him decide to become a swine veterinarian. In 1999, after earning his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Minnesota, he joined the staff at the Swine Vet Center (SVC).

Ross built a pig-finishing facility and finishes pigs for Reicksview Farms in northeast Iowa. He has been the lead veterinarian for Reicksview Farms for 17 years.

At SVC, Ross is responsible for swine herd health, production management services and Pork Quality Assurance Certification.

He has two children, a daughter Samantha who is a nurse in Colorado and a son Matson who is attending Iowa State University in agriculture.

Ross is very involved in community activities. He is chairman of the Fillmore Central Board of Education, which means attending many school activities. He also volunteers for pork industry work, including Operation Main Street where he enjoys sharing the story of pigs and a pig veterinarian. He also takes time to play basketball, golf and spend time with family and friends.
