Jake spends most of his time on sow farms, focused on sow health and production issues. At the Swine Vet Center (SVC), he also has specialized in day-one care, training for post-cervical insemination and gilt management. Oh, and he also is interested in disease eradication to achieve optimum production.
In other words, Jake is in his element with veterinary work and at SVC. He grew up on a row-crop farm with farrow-to-finish operations. In high school at Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, he was active in football and baseball. But animals and swine had captured his attention.
“As a kid, I was acquainted with SVC veterinarians like Drs. Loula and Yeske and gained an appreciation for the value they brought to our farm,” he said.
He went to the University of Minnesota and earned his undergraduate degree in animal science. He then moved on to veterinary school and earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2015.
Jake says his dream of being a veterinarian and working at SVC has worked out. He feels fortunate and really enjoys the environment at SVC.
Jake recently married Cherie-Lynn and the couple lives in St. Peter, Minnesota. In addition to his work at SVC, Jake enjoys anything outdoors from farming, hunting and fishing to gopher football.
